A poem by C.B.A.
I’ve wandered the world looking for a revelation
Waiting for life to show me its great secret
To poison me with the drunken joy of its marvels
To fill me with the ecstasy of something more than survival
But I returned home each time empty handed.
I’ve scaled the highest mountains hoping to convene with the heavens
Stood at the edge of the wildest seas listening for truth amongst the waves
Witnessed wonders beyond imagination at every twist and turn
And kept on following the road to nowhere in search of a revelation
I’ve been embraced by the savage thrills of jungles
And burned by the unforgiving fires of desert dunes
My eyes sought secret codes in the leaves and grains of sand
A hidden language that the universe might lay at my feet in revelation
But I returned home each time empty handed.
Past hills, rivers, valleys, and oceans of cloud
Beyond sunsets, sunrises, beginnings and endings,
Under twisting skies of constellations out of reach
I became a hunter hungering for that revelation
I turned cartographer mapping the path to the light
Cryptographer deciphering the key to the cage
Spy teasing secrets from the spider’s web
I dug, I unraveled, I chased, I observed
But I returned home each time empty handed.
Perhaps the lesson to be learned
The great mystery to solve
Is the fact that life’s great miracles
Are often found far closer to home.
